Getting a Provisional Licence

Once you have met the age (17) and document requirements, you can apply for a provisional driving licence from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). You will need to fill in an online application form, providing information about your address, identity and medical history.

You must also provide two passport-sized photos of yourself. You can take these at local photo shops, or you may be able to use photos you already have. Once your application has been submitted, the DVLA will send out a confirmation letter. This will tell you whether your application was successful or not and when your provisional licence should arrive in the post.

When your provisional driving licence arrives, it will be valid for 10 years. You must remember to keep your licence and any documents that come with it in a safe place, as you will need them when you go to take your theory and practical driving tests.

It's important to check the information on your provisional licence is correct, including your photo and name. If there is anything wrong, you will need to contact the DVLA and they can help you make changes. Once you have your provisional licence, you are ready to start learning how to drive! Good luck
